BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Events included prominent Black Americans from the local community, light refreshments, and coffee at the Marion County Museum in downtown Fairmont by the Court House. Speakers included [Asa Davison, Kip Price and Greg T. Hinton. Although the public was invited and admission was free, the events were very much underattended. Next year let's have a better response from the community. Does anyone have suggestions for better publicity?

THE MOUNTAIN STATE HISTORY EXPO held on March 29, 2014 (10:00-2:00) was a grand day for Marion County. The Marion County Historical Society, Inc. (MCHS) will once again sponsored the Mountain State History Expo which once again offered the use of our beautiful, historic Court House! The exhibits were of historical significance to the general public and, as usual with museum-sponsored events, they were open to all at no charge.
The Marion County Historical Society & Museum hosts a collection of amazing and diverse artifacts from past centuries. The museum and the society provide a connection to the events, times, fashions and culture of days past; everyone, regardless of age, can appreciate the fascinating history waiting here that can be explored time and time again.
At the museum, the sheriff's office and jail are special attractions. Kids always love to have their photos taken in one of the jail cells. Future plans include using jail cells as exhibit areas and turning the house itself back into a historic home open for regular tours and informal weddings.
